How do I open a bank account and can I be paid without one?

You need a bank account because Qatar pays wages through the Wage Protection System (WPS). Your salary must arrive by bank transfer, not cash. To open an account you normally need your QID, passport and an employer letter. Your employer usually helps set this up when your QID is ready. Every month, check that your full salary arrives. If it does not arrive through WPS, that is a violation. Keep your bank statements. You can show them if you make a complaint.
