What the work is

About Lucid Motors Lucid Motors is dedicated to creating mobility experiences through innovation. The company develops award-winning vehicles based on proprietary technology and software-defined vehicle architecture. Lucid operates with deep vertical integration, handling design, engineering, and production in-house across its global offices and manufacturing facilities. Teams at Lucid are united by a commitment to excellence, aiming to redefine possibilities in mobility. The Role of Sr. Engineer, Closures Mechanisms/Plastics - Doors The Sr. Engineer, Closures Mechanisms/Plastics - Doors is responsible for ensuring the design intent assembly requirements of closure mechanisms and plastics on the manufacturing line. This full-time role serves as the technical lead for product issue root cause analysis and deviation containment, supporting product launches as the primary engineering contact for Mechanisms/Plastics. The position also involves sustaining engineering post-launch, including the design and release of new parts to enhance quality or assembly processes. The Sr. Engineer will collaborate with core engineering to ensure parts meet all design and validation requirements. Key Responsibilities Assume ownership of Closures Mechanisms and plastic system assembly. Solve complex component/system level problems using standard problem-solving techniques to determine root cause and provide containment solutions. Ensure design intent assembly requirements for closure systems are enforced on the assembly line. Implement data-driven proactive problem-solving and issue avoidance strategies for process deviations or critical part quality issues. Support new product launches and execute part concession deviations for Closures Mechanisms/Plastics components within the manufacturing plant. Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure efficient process sequencing and build quality. Manage sustaining engineering for automotive Closures Hardware and mechanism parts and assemblies, including Side Door Window regulators and glass, Handles, Latches, Checkers, Power actuators, Charge Port mechanisms, and plastic trim parts such as Side Door Exterior Rocker Trims, Side Door functional plastic parts (glass run channels, close out panels), Hood Trims, Liftgate trims, and Spoiler Systems. Work with various stakeholders and attribute owners across the company (*, Vehicle Safety, Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Durability, Manufacturing, Design Studio) to validate design solutions. Engage cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Design, Product Development, Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Stamping, and Suppliers on tasks such as tool buy-offs and secondary component changes. Coordinate and communicate with interfacing suppliers. Provide direction to others and negotiate balanced solutions effectively. Coordinate virtual engineering and physical validation testing activities for designs. Travel domestically and internationally as required. Qualifications and Requirements Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering disciplines with 5+ years of automotive experience in design and release of vehicle attributes, or a Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Automotive disciplines with 5+ years of automotive experience in design and release of vehicle attributes. Experience working with Class A surface data. Professional certification in Six Sigma (Black Belt or Green Belt), Shainin RedX, or an equivalent problem-solving methodology. Hands-on practical experience in prototype and production assembly, including a willingness to assemble parts directly. Proficiency with 3D CAD systems such as CATIA or similar software. Experience in technology, system, and supplier selection. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Detail-oriented approach with a determined problem-solving attitude, utilizing an Engineering first principles approach. Design release engineering experience, including engineering change management and project management. Demonstrated excellence in previous positions, showcasing creativity in resolving mechanical design problems. Experience in full life cycle development from concept to prototype to full production. Knowledge of manufacturing processes applicable to Closures hardware and mechanisms, such as injection molding, die castings, stampings, ultrasonic welding, and bonding.
