What is the QID, who applies and how long does it take?Your residence permit is called the QID (Qatar ID). Your employer, who is your sponsor, must apply for it, and by law must start within 30 days of you arriving. It needs a medical test, fingerprints and government approval, and usually takes a few weeks. There is no guaranteed one-to-two-week time. Do not leave Qatar before your QID is issued, or the process resets. Check status on Metrash2 once issued. If your employer delays your QID, call the Ministry of Labour helpline 16008 and keep proof you were working.How do I get a SIM card and which is cheapest for calling Bangladesh?The two networks are Ooredoo and Vodafone. You need your passport or QID to buy a prepaid SIM. Buy from an Ooredoo or Vodafone shop, the airport, or a supermarket like Lulu or Carrefour. Ooredoo prepaid is called Hala; a Hala Super 35 costs QAR 35 for 30 days with local and some international minutes. Vodafone international add-ons start at QAR 10 for about 18 minutes to Bangladesh. To call Bangladesh cheaply, add the Bangladesh international pack. Prices change often, so check the shop or app for the current pack.How do I open a bank account and can I be paid without one?You need a bank account because Qatar pays wages through the Wage Protection System (WPS). Your salary must arrive by bank transfer, not cash. To open an account you normally need your QID, passport and an employer letter. Your employer usually helps set this up when your QID is ready. Every month, check that your full salary arrives. If it does not arrive through WPS, that is a violation. Keep your bank statements. You can show them if you make a complaint.Can I convert my Bangladeshi driving licence in Qatar?A Bangladeshi driving licence cannot usually be swapped directly for a Qatari one. Only some countries can convert directly. As a Bangladeshi you will normally take driving lessons and pass the Qatar tests. First you need your QID. Do not drive on your Bangladeshi licence for work, because it is not accepted for residents. Check the exact rule and cost with the Ministry of Interior traffic department before you plan. If your job needs driving, ask your employer to confirm what licence they expect and who pays for the tests.Can my employer keep my passport in Qatar?No. Keeping your passport is illegal in Qatar. Under Article 8 of Law No. 21 of 2015, the employer must return your passport after finishing your residence-permit steps, unless you ask in writing for them to hold it, and even then they must give it back when you ask. An employer who keeps it can be fined up to QAR 25,000. If your passport is taken, ask for it back; if refused, call 16008, or the National Human Rights Committee on 900, or report to the police. Passport confiscation can be a sign of forced labour.What happens after I file a labour complaint in Qatar?After you file, the Ministry first tries mediation between you and your employer. If that fails within a set time, your case goes to the Labour Dispute Resolution Committee, which is meant to give a decision within about three weeks. It can order the employer to pay wages, end-of-service or other money owed. Bring your contract, QID, pay records and any messages. There is also the Workers' Support and Insurance Fund, which can pay workers what they are owed when the employer cannot. Keep your complaint reference number.What are the emergency and complaint numbers in Qatar?For police, ambulance or fire, call 999, the main emergency number in Qatar. For labour problems like unpaid salary or a taken passport, call the Ministry of Labour helpline 16008, free and in many languages. To report bad worker accommodation, call 40280660. For human-rights help, the National Human Rights Committee is on 900. Save 999 and 16008 in your phone now. When you call, say your name, your location and what happened, and ask for a Bengali speaker if you need one. Keep your QID number ready.What is the end-of-service payment in Qatar?When your job ends after at least one year, you are owed an end-of-service payment. Under Qatar law it is at least three weeks of basic wage for each year you worked, based on your last basic wage. It should be paid when your contract ends. Check the amount uses your correct basic wage and full years of service. If your employer refuses to pay, keep your contract and pay records and file a complaint on 16008. The Labour Dispute Resolution Committee can order the employer to pay.What is the safest, cheapest legal way to send money to Bangladesh from Qatar?Use a licensed exchange house, not hundi. Hundi is illegal and you can lose your money with no help. Licensed exchange houses in Qatar include Al Fardan Exchange, City Exchange and Doha Bank services; they give a receipt. You need your QID to send money. The Bangladesh government adds a 2.5% cash incentive on money sent through legal bank channels, paid to your family in Taka. On BDT 100,000 they receive an extra BDT 2,500. For amounts over BDT 500,000 your family must show documents. Keep your receipt and compare the rate and fee before you send.What are the summer midday work ban dates and hours in Qatar?In summer you cannot be made to work outdoors in the middle of the day. The ban runs from 1 June to 15 September each year. During this period, outdoor work under the sun or in open places is banned between 10:00am and 3:30pm, under Ministerial Decision No. 17 of 2021. If your employer makes you work outside during these hours, report it to the Ministry of Labour on 16008 or the violation line 16505. Drink water and rest in shade. There are limited exceptions, such as some emergency and oil-and-gas work.What is the minimum wage in Qatar and the food and housing allowance?Qatar has one minimum wage for everyone, including domestic workers. The basic wage is at least QAR 1,000 a month. If your employer does not give a room, they must pay at least QAR 500 for housing. If they do not give food, they must pay at least QAR 300 for food. So with no room and no food, your minimum should be QAR 1,800 a month. If your employer gives a decent room and food, QAR 1,000 basic is allowed. A contract paying less than the minimum is void, and the employer still owes the difference.My salary is late or unpaid, what is the first step?First call the Ministry of Labour helpline 16008. The Labour Wing helps with salary and job disputes, lost passports, jail or hospital cases and repatriation. Bring your passport and QID copy. Registering your details helps the embassy reach you and your family in an emergency.What should I check before paying a deposit on a bed space in Qatar?Before you pay, see the room and bed with your own eyes. Ask what the rent covers, such as water, electricity and internet. Ask the deposit amount and get a receipt with the amount, the date and the landlord's name and number. A fair deposit is usually about one month. Do not pay only cash with no paper. Ask if the building is legal for sharing, because illegal partitions can be fined and you could be evicted. Take a photo of the room and keep any message where the landlord agrees the price.What must my Qatar work contract say, and what should I refuse to sign?Your contract must state your job title, your basic wage, your working hours, the contract length and who pays your ticket. Qatar's minimum basic wage is QAR 1,000 a month. If the employer does not give food, they must add QAR 300. If they do not give a room, they must add QAR 500. So with no food and no room you should get at least QAR 1,800. Do not sign a contract paying less than this or leaving the wage blank. Keep a copy. The contract must be loaded on the Ministry of Labour system.What are legal working hours and the rest day in Qatar?Normal work is a maximum of 8 hours a day and 48 hours a week. In Ramadan it is 6 hours a day. Work beyond this is overtime and must be paid at a higher rate based on at least the minimum basic wage. You get a weekly rest day. Your maximum working day including overtime should not pass 10 hours. If your employer makes you work longer with no overtime pay, note your hours and dates and report to the Ministry of Labour on 16008. Keep duty rosters or messages as proof.What is the cheapest way to travel daily in Doha?The cheapest way is the Doha Metro and Karwa buses, run by Qatar Rail and Mowasalat. You need a Travel Card (Karwa Smart Card or Metro card), about QAR 10 to buy. A standard single metro trip is QAR 2, with a daily cap of QAR 6 for unlimited standard-class rides. Karwa buses are cashless, so pay with the same card; short trips are about QAR 2.50. Feeder Metrolink buses to nearby areas are free when you tap the card. Top up at station machines, the Karwa app or shops. For daily commuting the card is far cheaper than taxis.Which medical tests must I do before flying to Qatar, and where?You must pass a GAMCA/Wafid medical test before your visa. Book it online at wafid.com. Pay the fee, and the system picks an approved centre for you. You cannot choose the centre yourself. The test checks your chest X-ray for TB, plus blood, urine and a physical check. Your result must say FIT. If it says UNFIT you cannot travel. Results usually come in 2 to 5 days. Do the test early and honestly. Carry your passport and appointment slip on the day. Ask the centre when your result will be ready and keep the printout safe.Can I change employer in Qatar?Yes. Since 2020 you no longer need a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to change jobs. You must notify your current employer through the Ministry of Labour electronic system. The notice period is normally one month in your first two years and two months after that. Once approved, your new employer loads a new contract on the ADLSA system. Do not simply stop going to work. Use the official system. If your employer blocks you or demands money to release you, that is illegal, so report it on 16008.
